After a camp session, we received this sweet refle After a camp session, we received this sweet reflection from a volunteer. 🌱

"Camp Encourage 100% provides a safe place where the kids can explore. I was telling my grandma about how we encourage the campers to try new things like horseback riding, the zipline, and target sports, which campers may have never done before, and she was shocked at all the new opportunities CE provided. I like that at CE walls are really broken down, and accomodations are made for everyone to feel comfortable and to take those day-to-day stressors away, so campers can find genuine friends that they want to keep in touch with, and perhaps even something new about themselves. The impact that CE has on campers is visible, and I hope they take those memories, knowledge and friendships with them."

Camp is not a luxury. For a child on the autism s Camp is not a luxury.

For a child on the autism spectrum who has never been away from home,
it’s a first step toward INDEPENDENCE.

This year, you can help make that first step possible with scholarship support and, thanks to @campsforkidskc , your gift will be matched.

Huge thanks to Dr. Kaye Otten for sharing her expe Huge thanks to Dr. Kaye Otten for sharing her expertise and for providing training and certification to Kristi and Aimee in the MANDT System today. We firmly believe in being prepared for every possible situation and love that the MANDT System places a high level of importance on relationship building, self-regulation, co-regulation and prevention strategies while giving practical and safe strategies for helping those in crisis.

If you read through all of our content (on our bro If you read through all of our content (on our brochures, on our website, and in all other communications), you’ll see we interchangably use "autistic" as well as "individual on the spectrum." This is with thoughtful intention and guided by input from autistic adults / adults on the spectrum. Some feel VERY strongly that we should only use “autistic” while others feel VERY strongly that we should only say “individual on the autism spectrum.” Thus, to honor everyone’s preferences, we use both, honoring both preferences and perspectives.

With 20% of our volunteers on the spectrum and on our Board of Directors, we take their input to heart. Because we cannot side with one individual’s preferences over the other, we try to honor both. 💚
