As I sit down to reflect on this year and look forward to the next, there’s an overwhelming sense of gratitude that fills my heart. In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, Camp Encourage has been a constant source of joy and hope for my family and me. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible impact this non-profit camp and your generous donations have had on our lives.

Camp Encourage is a place of magic and acceptance, where my daughter, along with other campers, finds a safe haven to be herself. It’s a place that not only welcomes and accepts but also nurtures and encourages children like her to thrive. Most importantly, it’s a place where lasting friendships are forged, creating a beautiful and supportive community for campers, volunteers, and their families.

The existence of this camp is made possible by the unwavering support of individuals like you who contribute the necessary resources. Your generous donations have also provided scholarships, making it possible for campers who might not otherwise afford it to experience the wonders of Camp Encourage.

This year, in 2023, we witnessed our campers embark on a new adventure at our brand-new campgrounds, marking the 40th session in our 16th year. As a mother, seeing my daughter reunite with fellow campers, peers, and dedicated volunteers from previous sessions filled my heart with joy. The excitement in her eyes as she claimed her top bunk, the giggles, and the anticipation of the adventures to come were all a testament to the magic of Camp Encourage.

As a volunteer in my second year with the camp, I’ve had the privilege of supporting both new and returning campers. It’s always a heartwarming experience to see camp through the fresh eyes of our campers and to witness the joy they experience as they explore all the new activities and experiences that Camp Encourage has to offer.

In our bunk, we had the pleasure of watching the boys gain confidence in choices, find commonalities with peers, and relax into the experience. It’s moments like these that make volunteering so rewarding, as we get to be a part of making each camp session as phenomenal as the last. The camaraderie, support, and the sense of togetherness are truly special.

One of the most inspiring aspects of my time as a volunteer has been working alongside amazing volunteers, who were campers themselves. They have a unique insight into what our kids experience and serve as incredible mentors to both campers and fellow volunteers like myself. Their stories and guidance have not only made me a better counselor but also a better mom. As parents, we face a steep learning curve, especially when our children have unique needs specific to autism. Camp Encourage supports each child individually, recognizing their unique strengths and needs, and that’s something truly extraordinary.

When each camp comes to an end, and we welcome the parents back, it’s a heartwarming sight to see our campers, their bags packed, hearts full of stories and memories, excitedly waiting to share their adventures. Just like theother parents, I can hardly wait to hear about my daughter’s experiences, see the photos of her participating in activities, and connecting with friends.

I’m so proud to see the determination in my daughter’s eyes as she aspires to grow up and become a volunteer, just like me, supporting new campers and sharing in the wonderful experiences they will have.

The spirit of giving, investing in the community that is Camp Encourage, leaves an indelible mark, evident when our children grow into adults who aspire to invest in the future of camp and campers. I can’t thank you enough for being a part of this incredible journey and making it all possible.
